The distributed nature of computers and the internetworking that occurs between them have opened up an entirely new realm of computer services. In order to access information on remote computers, the local computer must be in some way connected to other computers via a network.

BIOS Technologies offers a number of solutions aimed at connecting computers via networks. Some of these solutions are described in other sections of this website. The VPN Solution, Firewall Solution, and Web Server Solution are examples of these. While the network solutions described on this page can be provided as standalone solutions, they are generally used to supplement and enhance these other solutions.

DNS Solution

DNS (or Domain Name Service) is used to convert human readable domain names (i.e. www.bios-tech.com) to computer usable IP Addresses (i.e. 66.140.83.161) and back. BIOS Technologies is able to implement a full DNS Server Solution that allows a company to maintain it's own list of host names and IP Addresses instead of relying on a third party to maintain this information. This solution provides the following benefits:

  • Full Control over host name/IP address mapping
  • No third party involvement for DNS updates
  • Low cost of ownership
  • No fees to pay to third parties for DNS maintenance.

DHCP Solution

DHCP (or Dynamic Host Control Protocol) is used by organizations to simplify the method of assigning machine usable IP addresses to computers within the organization. DHCP uses a pool of available IP addresses and dynamically assigns them to computers instead of having an address hard-coded into the computer. This simplifies network administration since all that has to be tracked is the list of available IP addresses, not which one is assigned to which computer. This solutions adds the following benefits:

  • Simplified network administration
  • Low cost of ownership

FTP Solution

FTP (or File Transfer Protocol) is used to transfer files from one computer to another. This can allow files to be shared and worked on from remote locations when a VPN Solution is not possible or desirable. An FTP Solution can also allow a company to distribute files to the public. This solutions adds the following benefits:

  • Files can be downloaded/uploaded
  • Low cost of ownership
